Complex home modifications (CHM) encompass substantial alterations that may span multiple areas within your residence. For instance, an amalgamation of your bathroom and toilet could create additional space for utilizing equipment like hoists or shower chairs.
An adept and appropriately certified home modification assessor, typically a qualified occupational therapist, is tasked with evaluating your home environment and ensuring the modification aligns with your objectives and anticipated future requirements. Their involvement spans both the planning phase and the completion of the modifications.
The NDIA will allocate funds for a building construction practitioner to collaborate with the participant and home modification assessor in formulating the recommended scope of work. This practitioner can aid in the assessment and selection of builders or other suppliers, all while involving the participant in the decision-making process.
For complex home modifications, especially those involving heightened risk or cost, the NDIA will finance the engagement of a building works project manager.
If necessary, the NDIA may also provide funding for an independent building certifier to ensure compliance and quality standards.
